PROVIDENCE, RI (March 27, 2007) The Board of Directors presents a special opportunity to honor Tyler Denmead by supporting the Founder’s Fund.

This new fund supports continued excellence and innovation for New Urban Arts’ nationally recognized programs.  The Board of Directors is launching The Founder’s Fund to seed a new program, the Arts Mentoring Fellowship Program.

Ten years ago, Denmead created a new educational model that partners young artists as mentors with high school students.  He named them, “artist mentors.”  Since then, the model has gained a national reputation for its impact on the lives of young people.

During that time, New Urban Arts is learning that its alumni artist mentors and students often lead lives in the arts, public service, and education.  In some instances, they are even replicating New Urban Arts’ model by launching new programs in other cities.

The Arts Mentoring Fellowship Program will support a small group of artists and educators to provide more in-depth support and professional development to current artist mentors, and to share knowledge about New Urban Arts’ community-based arts practice with programs and alumni throughout the country.

This is a strategy that allows New Urban Arts to continue to deepen its impact in Rhode Island, while contributing to the growth of arts mentoring throughout the country.

The Board is launching the Arts Mentoring Fellowship Program in the Fall of 2007.

If you are interested in participating in honoring Tyler Denmead through making a contribution to the Founder’s Fund, please contact Jason Yoon, Executive Director, jason@newurbanarts.org or 401- 751-4556.
