New Urban Arts And Youth Pride Host The 3rd Annual Youth Open Mic Tomorrow Night!

New Urban Arts is collaborating with Youth Pride Inc. to coordinate a city-wide Youth Open Mic on Friday February 15th to kick off February vacation. Poets, performers, writers, musicians, dancers, jugglers, singers, jokers, anyone ages 13-23 who would like to participate is invited to come to New Urban Arts from 4-9pm.

At 4pm, we will have writing and music workshops led by high school students to generate new work for those who don't come prepared with something to read at the mic. At 5pm, we will have a performance by featured artist, Roz Raskin. A local singer song writer, graduate of Classical High School and alumnus of New Urban Arts, get inspired for her performance by visiting http://www.myspace.com/rozraskin

Following her opening performance, the stage will be opened to youth performers. The open mic event will be held at New Urban Arts, 743 Westminster Street. $1 at the door includes pizza and snacks!

Please help us spread the word to young performers about this event. It was a huge success in previous years and is back again by popular demand.

Thank You to New Urban Arts Interim Team

In the excitement of New Urban Arts new Executive Director, we would like to thank our interim team for their hard work and dedication to supporting our programs and daily operations. Emily Ustach, our Interim Office Manager, has been an integral member of our studio community during the seven-month interim period, significantly strengthening our organizational capacity with her hard work and personal investment. Emily will be continuing her work at Rhode Island Campus Compact as Program Coordinator, supporting service learning on Rhode Island college campuses. We are sad to say farewell to Emily but know that we have made a great friend and look forward to working with her in the future.

Tamara Kaplan, Interim Executive Director, will continue her work at New Urban Arts in a newly created position, Operations Manager. In her new role, Tamara will work to sustain organizational support systems, daily operations, and financial management, as well as continue to support the leadership transition. This is Tamara's eighth year as a staff member at New Urban Arts. She can be reached at tamara@newurbanarts.org.

We would like to thank our generous donors who have continued to support New Urban Arts through this transition as well as Sarah Meyer; Program Director, Jesse Banks III; Studio Manager, Tyler Denmead; Founder, Artist Mentors, Students, Alumni and Board Members.
