Anselm Skogstad is a German-American artist living and working in New York, NY and Munich, Germany. Between 2002 when Skogstad first arrived in New York City and 2006, he "customized' his art education. He began experiencing the New York art scene whilst working for renowned artists Christopher Makos and David LaChapelle as well as Magnum Photos. Further more, Skogstad began attending a selection of courses at the International Center of Photography and the School of Visual Arts in New York. Skogstad worked on an extensive body of work entitled American Portrait whilst being based in San Francisco, CA for several months.

Throughout his work, Skogstad creates visuals, which often implement multiple layers using mixed media. He works in series allowing each piece to be part of a whole, not being titled individually. Skogstad also insists on setting technical boundaries in which he works for each specific series.
